# Chapter 73 – Transforming Grace (Book Thoughts)

This is the second instalment of Book Thoughts. The book is Transforming Grace by Jerry Bridges. My 2nd book read from the same author, the first one was Respectable Sins which I read during that time it was the centre of discussion from the small group I belonged to, some years ago. Like that book, this one was an eye opener on this certain topic of grace.
I summarize the book in my own words that, if you are saved by grace then you are living by grace for God's glory and being transformed by that same grace. That reminds me of Romans 12:1-2 even it wasn’t cited from the book as far I remember. The author's main point throughout the book from my point of view was God's grace in the life of the Christian on how it must supposed to work, given that the title was Transforming Grace. Both summary and main point carries the same message.
My favourite quote from the book came from the last chapter, Garments of Grace:
If we are truly living by the transforming grace of God on our daily lives, gratitude for God's gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ will be a growing experience.
The message hits well from those words: “growing experience”. Does our Christian life reflects a growing experience? Are you growing in His grace? Those questions appeared to me while I read those line. The sub-topic on that chapter was gratitude but those words tackled more than that. Am I really transformed by His grace or not?
Because if not, the message will go the opposite way. If there's no transformation, then you're just living by your own strength, you are the captain of the ship of your life, then you are not really saved by grace. Those are the words come into my mind. It goes deeper (I think) from the performance treadmill idea of the author where Christians are saved by grace yet after that, they don't live by grace, but live by performance throughout their Christian journey which tackled on the book. You can get a copy of book here.
So, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience; bearing with one another, and graciously forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone, just as the Lord graciously forgave you, so also should you.
—Colossians 3:12-13
