Chapter 75 – Life After Cars (Book Thoughts)

This is the 3rd instalment of Book Thoughts.
The book has a strong message about the negative effects of cars but this depends who will read it. Climate change is just one of them. You can shout all you want (given that the authors have their own podcast) from the other side of the fence and maybe the message would reach it. The only question is would they hear you out or just honk back at you. Specially those car-brained humans.
The American or Western setting of the book is relatable in some sense because it's happening now in the Philippines. Sa totoo lang, the cities that cited from the book that already transforming into “less cars” are moving forward into a healthy city but Metro Manila goes the opposite way. What happened decades ago from these Western cities is what happening here today. Lots of cars, traffic congestion, pollution, and the pedestrian will murder you.
(We can say) cars is a sign of life and economic progression of a town up to nations (looking on its positive side), but this book tells regulating cars and moving into other way of transportation like public transport and bicycles is a way better sign of progression if only, yes, if only governments and business people would moderate their greed.
The world lived for a long time without cars, then what would be it look like a life after cars? This book tells a lot about it and maybe the message can reach car-brained humans as the honking lessen.
